My first roll of film

While scanning the old family Kodachromes, I came across a group of slides still in their box. Like they had been looked at and put away. I opened them and saw why. All the slides were pretty dark and underexposed. They never made it into any of the slide projector trays because they just weren’t very good.

I decided to scan them anyway and lo and behold the Epson 4180 and a little work in Photoshop and I had something. Then I recognized them. I had taken these shots in 1974. I remember my Dad letting me use the camera and shoot a roll of my own. I was 16. I took the camera for a trip to my grandparent’s house and took some pictures of them. I remember taking this picture, I couldn’t get Grandma to look directly at the camera.

I caught Grandpa in a reflective mood.

It’s funny, but I don’t think I shoot any differently today than I did back then. I’m just a little better at the mechanics.

I like to take a photo-journalistic approach to photographing my family. I’m not really into a lot of posing. I’d rather just capture the moment without interfering. Photographed with a Nikon N80, 50 1.8 lens and Kodak Tri-x 400 film.
